When we were in the Caribbean last year some of my friends decided to head across to Klein Bonaire for the day. Seeing their photos I knew that I had to make the trip across this season. Klein Bonaire is a small Island just off the coast of Bonaire. Today no one lives on the island, and it is a protected nature reserve as well as nesting grounds for turtles. In addition to that it is also a popular snorkeling and scuba diving spot due to the beautiful reefs just off the beach.

Such a pretty beach

The boat ride across from Bonaire takes approximately 15 minutes by water taxi. There is no pier on the island, so the boat will let you off on the beach. Once you step off the boat you are on one of the prettiest beaches I have ever seen, with the whitest sand and the bluest waters as far as they eye can see!

A new friend!

After we had found our spot on the beach, we all headed out to discover the reef. Where we went into the water you had to swim out a little before you saw the reef. The further along the beach we swam the closer to the reef we got. At one point the reef was between me and the beach, and it was so shallow that I could not swim over it.

While a lot of the reef had bleached, there were still some pretty and colorful coral. There were also a lot of big and awesome looking brain coral just below the surface. Amongst the coral there were so many different fish swimming! There were parrot fish feeding on the reef, friendly silver fish swimming up to us and this super pretty shiny blue fish hiding in the coral.

At the end of the reef it was time to head back ashore for a quick nap in the sun before the boat picked us up and brought us away from paradise and back to reality.
