As a crew member, a big part of life is going ashore to try the local food. In Alaska there is no better place for this than Tracy’s King Crab Shack.

Tracy’s King Crab Shack

A Juneau institution – Tracy’s King Crab Shack

The original Tracy’s opened in 1996 and is Juneau’s original king crab shack. While the original location was a literal shack with outdoor seating on the edge of the pier, they have now moved to a new location just up the street. The menu is very simple, you order at the door, collect your drinks at the bar and sit down at one of the many shared tables.

The food menu consists of crab legs, bisque, crab cakes and a bread roll filled with crab, and it is all delicious, especially combined with a nice Alaskan beer. I went for the crab leg, it is simply served – rolled in paper with a small basket with butter and a bread roll. While it is very messy to eat, and can be difficult to get the meat out of the shell, it is so fresh and delicious!
