If you type Canada on Pinterest or Instagram the first pictures you will see are from Moraine Lake. This makes sense as this place is quite literally picture perfect! Moraine Lake is located in Banff National Park between Lake Louise Village and Lake Louise itself. We got there in the evening, and even if we managed to find parking pretty close to the lake, we could see cars parked far away, giving a good indication as to how many people there can be in the middle of the day.

We arrived at what looked like a hill of rocks with logs in the water in front. Many people were running across the logs and then climbing the hill. After looking at these people for a bit, and standing on some of the logs we decided to play it safe and walk the pathway up the back of the hill instead. There were several view points up on the hill, one offering a better view than the next. The mountains were so majestic, and the water had this unbelievable turquoise colour! (there is no way the photos can do it justice)

One of the most photographed locations in all of Canada
After enjoying the view for a while and taking tons of pictures, we headed back down to the lake. There is a trail following the lake until it becomes too difficult to walk. While most of the trail is in the forest, there are so many places where you can see through to the lake, and again each one offers a different view of the spectacular scenery. At one point we looked up at the mountains and could see this massive glacier coming down, and a waterfall coming down from it, the sun was also coming out just as we looked up playing with the colours of the ice and the mountains.

Further on we started hearing the sound of flowing water, and soon enough we arrived at a stream that marked the end of the trail. There was a clearing by the stream, offering fantastic views of the lake with the rock hill on the other side. You could also look up the stream to see the glacier then melted water came from. There were also a few steps leading into the lake, perfect for relaxing and feeling how cold the lake really was.

Back at the parking lot we headed towards the beautiful sight, which happened to be just around the corner.
