We drove to Lake Louise one evening to try to catch the sunset, knowing that we would be back there the next day for a hike and a proper look at the scenery. When we got to the lake, I realized that we were not the only ones there for the sunset – there were a lot of people on the edge of the lake taking pictures. There was also a massive storm rolling in over the mountains with dark clouds, lighting and thunder. The clouds turned the water in to the most amazing colour.

Once the wind got too bad, we decided to discover the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, a picturesque castle style hotel on the lakefront. Originally built at the turn of the 20th century, the chateau was initially built to cater to the Canadian Pacific Railway. With a long and interesting history, it is a luxury hotel today. The property itself is beautiful, and almost like a maze to wander around. We stumbled upon a basement corridor with pictures covering the walls explaining the history of the property and the area, which was so interesting and cleverly done.

After finding our way out of the hotel the we could still see the storm, so we decided to drive to Mount Norquay to see the lightning show!
