When I think of Hawaii the first things that come to mind are beautiful beaches, impressive volcanos and surfing. With Waikiki Beach being the home of modern day surfing, I decided this would be the perfect place to go for a lesson.

When we arrived at Waikiki we booked a lesson with one of the many surf tents on the beach. The instructor took us through all the steps of how to get up on the board, and had us do a few practice runs on the sand. Then it was time to get the actual boards and head out in the water. We went in a small section of the beach with all the other beginner surfers where the waves were nice and small.

The instructor helped us wait for the right wave, and pushed us so that our speed matched. I almost managed to get up on the first wave, but I over adjusted my weight a bit and lost balance. The next try I managed to get up, and found somewhat of a technique which allowed me to get up the other tries as well. I managed to catch 3 pretty good waves, and it was such an awesome feeling.
