When looking at the itinerary for our Mexican cruise ,Cabo San Lucas stood out as one of the best ports to go diving in. With impressive mountains, beautiful beaches and an incredible variety of underwater life. When the ship arrived in the morning we were met with the most impressive sight, tons of manta rays jumping in and out of the water as part of their mating rituals.\u00a0 Safe to say, this increased our excitement for the dive even more.<\/p>\n

After getting registered at the dolphin center we headed over to the dive boat, where we had a quick introduction before we started getting geared up. The first dive spot was close to one of the main beaches, and there were people swimming out further than the dive site. When going into the water I realized that my camera wasn\u2019t working properly, but fortunately switching it on and off again a few times fixed the problem. The dive site itself was a wall dive, and at times we were not able to see the bottom below us, only darkness.<\/p>\n

As soon as we got under the water we started seeing so many different fish. At one point I turned a corner around a rock and was met by a massive school of yellow striped snappers. When we got too close to them they would move a little bit, but they would still stay near us. We also swam past a stone fish, and a guitar fish and lots of puffer fish. The most exciting part was swimming over this rock and seeing a white tip reef shark. As always, when I see a shark I get that initial moment of fear, but it soon passes. Additionally this shark was busy sleeping and paid no attention to us.<\/p>\n

While deciding on the next dive site, the skipper sailed us out to the famous arch. The mountain landscape here is so pretty and impressive. We also saw, and smelled, sea lions \u2013 one even swam all the way over to the boat to say hi! We also saw even more of the jumping rays, some got pretty close to the boat. There is a dive site at the end of the mountains which also has a wreck. Unfortunately as the winds and currents were quite strong we decided against this site.<\/p>\n

The dive site we did end up choosing was further towards the port, however it was a drift dive and we ended up at the first dive site in the end. Again we were met by so many different fish, once we got under the water. Following this wall we again had corals and fish around us and darkness below. At one point the dive master grouped us all together and I thought we were doing a safety stop since we were in quite shallow waters, but after checking our air he kept on swimming. We ended up circling a big rock with so many fish! On the other side of the rock we saw another white tip reef shark, as we got closer he noticed us and swam a small circle before finding a new spot to rest. When we were about to do the safety stop we saw a manta ray swimming in the distance.<\/p>\n
