Puerto Vallarta is a beach resort town on the pacific coast of Mexico. I have been here several times, but never actually made it in to town. We were there in the off season, so it was more a lazy seaside town than anything else, but all the souvenir shops still told us that it is a major tourist place.<\/p>\n

We headed into town on a mission to find some nice local food. The taxi driver dropped us of close to the beachfront promenade, which we figured would be a good bet. As we were walking we saw some men in traditional outfits climbing this high pole on the beach. We later saw them circling the pole at the end of ropes all the way to the ground. Turns out this is the old tradition of Danza de los Voladores, a ritual initially used to ask the gods for water during severe droughts.<\/p>\n

We then found a nice little restaurant serving traditional Mexican food, even the waitresses barely spoke English. The restaurant was not that full so we got to sit on this small balcony with the pretties view. After starting the meal of wit margaritas and guacamole, we were entertained by a mariachi band. As the main course I enjoyed cheese enchiladas, while most of my friends had different versions of shrimp.<\/p>\n

Inside the restaurant they had all these pretty Mexican decorations. As my friend was planning a Mexican party onboard we wanted to find the place they were sold. The waitress told us that they would be closed but we decided to go have a look anyways. Luckily for us we stumbled across this shop selling pi\u00f1atas and any candy and small toys imaginable to fill them with. They also had the exact bunting my friend wanted.<\/p>\n

On the way back to the taxi we stopped by one of the major souvenir shops, mainly to buy the most adorable little sombreros to use at an upcoming party. They also had a lot of beautiful clay decorations, bowls and glassware, and a huge selection of tequila. After doing a little shopping we realized how little time we had left and rushed back to the ship.<\/p>\n
