New York City is one of my favourite places \u2013 it is so fast paced and there are so many different things to see and do. While most things require quite a bit of time to do, I have a list of things I can manage to see within my break hours. As I have seen many of the main tourist attractions such as Times Square, Central Park and Grand Central Station, this time, I decided to go to a somewhat less visited place\u00a0 \u2013 The High Line.<\/p>\n

What is more typical New York than a hot dog cart;<\/p><\/div>\n

Flowers and vegetation are a big contrast to the concrete jungle, including the Empire State Building, in the background.<\/p><\/div>\n

The High Line is an elevated park that stretches from 14th<\/sup> to 34th<\/sup> street, with a nice walkway you can follow. Built in 1847 the High Line was originally a railroad track for freight trains and closed down for good in the 1980s. In the 1990s urban explorers started discovering the High Line, and in 1999 it was decided that it would be turned into a park. The first section was opened in 2009 but the entire high line was not completed until 2014. Today it is a beautiful green area for locals and tourists to enjoy!<\/p>\n

The high line still crosses modern day train tracks; The High Line still crosses over the train tracks at Penn Station, where you can also see new high-rise buildings being constructed.<\/p><\/div>\n

We started our adventure at the Chelsea Market, where I honestly could spend days walking around. We bought some food to take with us up to the park, I bought this really tasty tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwich. We headed up to the high line, to the urban theatre, where we had lunch with an amazing view of the road below.<\/p>\n

We then walked the rest of the High Line up until 34th<\/sup> street. It was such a pretty walk, and in addition to all the plants there were also several artworks along the way. Even the weather was perfect! You also get fantastic viewpoints of the city, especially the surrounding buildings. I find it so interesting so see all the new buildings being built right next to the old-school red brick buildings.<\/p>\n
