From an early age I have always loved to travel, there is just something about discovering new places and cultures that truly fascinates me. I have been fortunate enough to make at least one big trip per year growing up, which has led me from the beaches of Florida to the desserts of Morocco and the wine regions of South Africa. My journeys have also led me to my favourite way of travelling, cruising, but more on that later. <\/span><\/p>\n

Being born and raised in Norway I have always loved those seldom moments of sunshine (our summers are over in a blink after all). When I started high school I decided to pack up and move my family to the South of France for a more international experience.<\/p>\n

I followed this with a move to Switzerland where I got my degree in hospitality management. When I graduated university I decided that a 9-5 job was not the thing for me, and that I wanted a job that would allow me to travel the world. My mind immediately went to cruising, which ended up being the path I chose.<\/p>\n

Now I must add that cruising as a guest where you wake up when you want, spend the day in an exciting port and watch the sail away by the pool before you head to dinner and a show is quite a different experience from working on board. When working on board you easily work 9 hours every day for your contracted 4-5 months. That being said there are so many things that make up for these long working days. You meet some of the most amazing people, who will turn into your family. You get to take part in events you most likely would not elsewhere, I mean where else do you get to kiss a fish before being thrown in the pool to mark your first equator crossing or stand on the top deck of the ship surrounded by all your friends watching the northern lights!<\/p>\n

You also get to see the world. I am extremely lucky in the sense that I normally have a 4 hour break in the middle of the day where I can go out and explore the ports. This port can be anything from a small rainy European port in November, a Caribbean beach right off the gangway, major shopping in the US or a shuttle ride in to exotic cities in Asia or South America. While I cannot pick a favourite place or experience, except for relaxing on\u00a0a beach that is, some moments do stand out. As much as I do not like the cold weather, my time spent cruising the Antarctic coast, as well as our cruise\u00a0 through the Northwest Passage, do stand out as some of the most spectacular places I have visited.<\/p>\n
